Picking a platform before you know what you’re actually building is how half the internet ends up with a Wix site trying to run a wholesale ordering system, or a hand-coded site that a $15/hour freelancer can never touch again. WebSnarks starts every website project with the platform question, not the design question, because the wrong foundation costs more to fix later than it would have cost to build right the first time.

Which platform actually fits your business

  • WordPress — best for content-heavy sites, blogs, and businesses that want full control without paying per-transaction fees. Typical build: 7 to 10 business days.
  • Shopify — the right call for product-based businesses that want built-in payment processing, inventory, and app integrations without custom backend work.
  • WooCommerce — WordPress plus a store. Good middle ground if you already have content on WordPress and want to add selling capability.
  • Wix — fastest to launch, best for service businesses with simple booking or contact needs.
  • Custom coded — when the project needs something no platform template handles natively — a booking engine, a member portal, a calculator tool. Custom builds run 3 to 5 weeks depending on scope.

Every option connects to our website solutions team page, where you can browse WordPress website development, Shopify website development, WooCommerce website development, Wix website development, and custom website development in detail.

What building the site looks like

  1. Wireframe — a bare-bones layout so you’re approving structure before anyone touches color or fonts
  2. Design — full visual design on desktop and mobile breakpoints
  3. Build — actual development on staging, not your live domain
  4. QA — we test across Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on both desktop and mobile before handoff

If you already have a site that’s breaking, our bug detection and fixing service handles it without a full rebuild, and website maintenance covers plugin updates, backups, and uptime monitoring after launch so you’re not the one googling error messages at 11pm.

What it actually costs

Pricing depends entirely on platform and scope — a five-page WordPress small business website and a custom-coded platform with a member login are not the same job, and quoting a flat number for both would be misleading. Share your requirements through the form below and you’ll get a scoped quote, not a generic package price.

Selling online is its own animal

If the goal is transactions, not just information, that’s a different build entirely — check our e-commerce solutions page, which covers payment gateways, product catalogs, and checkout optimization specifically.

Hosting, domains, and who actually owns what

A lot of website horror stories start with a business not knowing who controls their own domain. We register everything under your name and your account — not an agency account you lose access to if you ever switch providers. For hosting, we’ll recommend a provider based on your platform and expected traffic, but you keep the login. If you already have hosting through GoDaddy, Bluehost, or a similar provider, we build there instead of forcing a migration you don’t need.

Mobile isn't an afterthought anymore

More than half of most small business site traffic now comes from a phone, so we design mobile-first, not desktop-first-then-shrink. That changes real decisions: shorter headlines that don’t wrap awkwardly, tap targets sized for thumbs instead of cursors, and forms that don’t make someone zoom in to find the submit button. A site that looks great on a 27-inch monitor and frustrating on an iPhone is a site that’s losing the majority of its visitors before they even see your offer.

Building with SEO in mind from day one

Retrofitting SEO onto a finished site is slower and more expensive than building it in from the start. Every site we build ships with clean heading structure, compressed images, proper alt text, and fast load times out of the box — the technical groundwork our SEO team would otherwise have to go back and fix. It doesn’t replace an ongoing SEO campaign, but it means you’re not starting that campaign already behind.

What a maintenance retainer actually covers

Website maintenance isn’t just “we’ll fix it if it breaks.” A standard retainer includes monthly plugin and core updates, a weekly backup schedule, uptime monitoring with alerts, and a set number of small content edits per month — swapping a headline, updating a price, adding a team photo — without billing each one as a separate ticket.
